AWARDS  +  CONFERENCE

MAY 13, 2017 |  918 BATHURST

For 15 years ACIDO's annual Rocket Awards has brought together top industrial design graduates from each of Ontario's accredited degree programs. This year we're growing the event, making sure it's not just about competition, but convergence. The Rocket Conference provides a unique opportunity for new talent and established expertise to co-mingle. It's a day packed full of panel discussions, one-on-one portfolio reviews, workshops, and, of course, a party to wrap it all up. Focused not only on helping young designers shape the future of their careers, but coming together as a community of collaborators to better understand the future of the industry.

ROCKET AWARDS FURTHER YOUR career

Top graduates nominated by thesis and final year studio professors at participating schools will be invited to pitch their projects to a jury of select industry professionals who will determine winners across five categories. Like previous years, a cash prize of $200 will be awarded to each category winner along with a top prize of $1000. While recognition is nice, it’s often exposure that matters most to designers just setting out. This year we’re excited to work with partners like the Design Exchange, MISC Magazine, and others to make sure emerging talent gets the spotlight it deserves.

ROCKET knows the value of a little face-time

One-on-one portfolio reviews with industry experts give graduates an opportunity to get valuable feedback on their work and practice presenting in an interview setting. Participants will also have the opportunity to be matched with a professional ACIDO mentor.

We ask that portfolios be edited down to 3-5 of the projects you're most proud of - this means you'll have the opportunity to discuss the thinking behind your work rather than flipping through page after page. Spots are limited, so be sure to sign-up early.

ROCKET BRINGS TOGETHER DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES

Careers in industrial design follow many different paths. We're bringing together a panel that represents the many trajectories available in the industry - from makers, to entrepreneurs, to strategists and offering workshops focused on tactical knowledge needed to design the future. Check back for updates as we build our roster of participating professionals involved in portfolio reviews, competition judging and speaking panels.
